It's the perfect follow-up map for the Farmhouse though. RELATED: Horror Game Villains Inspired By Real People The sheer size and layout of this map are what make it difficult. Unfortunately, the boss will have no trouble chasing players down, lost or not. Unlike the Farmhouse though, the Asylum's narrow halls and multiple floors make it a true maze to navigate. The Asylum plays very similarly to the first map, the Farmhouse. It wouldn't be a scary game without an abandoned hospital or asylum. These factors make the Inn one of, if not the hardest, map in the game! If stealing the eggs wasn't enough, the boss enemy of this map also randomly webs off hallways, forcing players to use valuable UV charge just to clear a path. This can really set back the momentum of the players and in Devour, quick objective completion is key to winning. If a spider steals a cleansed egg, it will become cursed again, forcing players to take it back to the cleansing pool. Unfortunately, gathering items in one location can be pretty tough on this map thanks to the roaming spider mobs. Destroying ten eggs is the primary objective of this map. This egg must then be matched with an altar with the same symbol to completely destroy the egg. Cleansing an egg will reveal a symbol on the egg. On this map, players have to gather cursed eggs and cleanse them in pools. The giant spiders on this map will actually steal the players' objective items! While every map has mobs that spawn to attack players, the Inn's mobs are actually more than small annoyances that have to be avoided. Players go back and forth on whether the Inn or the Town is the harder, but the devious mobs of the Inn often tip the scales. It's not a survival horror game made to last like Dead by Daylight. The Inn is one of the hardest maps in the game. However, you can't go into the game with high expectations. The game's price point is very reasonable, almost like it knew it would be one of those single-evening party games. So, is DEVOUR worth the investment? Well, you can't say no. DEVOUR is just a decent multiplayer survival horror game. It's not a benchmark for evolution in the series, nor will it lead to bigger and better things. The problem is that it isn't the memorable survival horror it tries to be. The benefit is that it does have some replayability, and the gameplay is polished, which is an admirable feat. As far as what you have to do, we'll leave that to you not to spoil the thrills! It's a game where you can indeed enjoy for a few hours and share the experience of breaking the demon's hold on the possessed cultists. ![]() ![]() Yes, DEVOUR is short, sometimes it seems a little gimmicky, but players won't feel like they've been taken for a ride. The narrative does create engagement, the objectives are enthralling, and the scares are legit. However, we'll argue in favor of the game that the quality seems to trump the majority of the stack. So what sets it apart from any other survival horror game? Well, not a lot, all things considered. You've probably guessed DEVOUR has them all. Those are jump-scares, interactions with one horrible monster, and short playthroughs. As an indie survival horror game, you can be assured that three things will be present in the gameplay. Though you can play solo, you just don't get the same enjoyment out of it without others. Stop the Evil, Save the WorldĭEVOUR is a 1-4 player coop game that encourages you to play with friends. Maybe the game is a starting point for an evolution in the constant wheel of samey indie survival horror games? Only one way to find out, join the cult. There's a thick narrative around the game, supplemented with more detailed visuals to serve the plotline justice. DEVOUR feels like another one of those games that we can pick up, have a few jump-scares, a couple of chuckles, and leave it all behind.ĭEVOUR looks like it wants to offer more than just a minimalist survival horror, though. It makes sense - they are games relatively easy to make and pull in a few hours of multiplayer fun during these trying times. Co-op survival horrors seem to be coming thick and fast during this pandemic.
